Shake, shake, shake.....

Hi little buddy,

What a weekend it has been.  Yesterday started off with good news....your lung stayed inflated overnight and your x-ray looked good.  That meant we could proceed with operation "Ditch the breathing tube."  By mid-afternoon the tube was out and you were instantly a much happier little boy.

Unfortunately that happiness didn't last too long.  The doctors have needed to keep you sedated the past few days otherwise you were going to take out that tube on your own.  Well in order to get that tube out you had to be awake and doing your best breathing.  That means those fancy sleep medicines were all turned off and apparently your little body had become pretty used to them.

Since then you have been dealing with something they call withdrawal. As a mommy I think this may be one of the worst things I've seen you face.  It's kind of like you've had a gallon of coffee and can't hold still to save your life.  Your little arms, legs and tongue are going a million miles a minute.  At first it was great to see you so bright eyed and active but since you can't turn it off it's not so great.  The good news is you aren't too mad about it just exhausted and very shaky.  Hopefully it doesn't seem as bad to you and you won't remember it when you get bigger.

The doctors have given you some other medicines to help work through this process but it's still a process.  Hang in there little guy things will get better each day.  I know you are strong enough to handle this just like you have so many other obstacles in the past.  The important thing we have to focus on is that you are free of the breathing tube and one step closer to our goal.  This has been a hard week but an important week.  Just think your nose is opened back up, you have your feeding tube in and we're headed in the right direction of getting rid of all those other tubes.

Although you have been either wired or sleeping this weekend you have had a lot of people stop by to see you.  Almost all of your favorite nurses have made an appearance to goo and ga at you and wish you a Merry Christmas.  Grandma and grandpa came by to see your adorable face without that tube, Pappaw drove up to spend some time playing with your little hands and feet, and mommy and daddy have been close by.  You also had a very special visitor yesterday before that tube came out.  His name is Bill but you will learn to call him Santa.  He volunteers here but his daughter went to school with mommy so he stops by every Saturday to see you.  Someday mommy will tell you all about Santa and his army of elves.  I am pretty sure Santa is going to spoil you when this is all over with.

For now you are quiet and peaceful for which mommy is very thankful.  Mommy and daddy are going to head over to Ronald McDonald House and finish some treats we are making for the nurses.  I hope you have a very restful night and maybe tomorrow you'll be shaking a little less.  Happy Christmas Eve's Eve Connor.

Mommy and Daddy love you very much

-Mommy
