Snuggles...

Hey Buster -

Did you notice how we started this one son? Oh you did? So you know you are being a little rambunctious at 11:15 again then? Well you are lucky that you are ridiculously cute and your mommy and I love to see you awake with both eyes wide open and looking around because if not..... well lets be honest here, if not we wouldn't be doing anything more than we are doing now. You are just 10 days old after all.

So you had a lot of visitors today, but otherwise it was that quiet day that your mommy and I have been hoping you would have for days now. No tests, no scans, and the doctors didn't do anything with you today other than peek in and say hello (of course Ben and Dr. Nelson couldn't stay away even though they didn't have to come see you at all). So because of that you slept all day long. Most of the day all comfy and cozy in your bed with what I swear was a grin on your face.

Meanwhile, in the grownup part of this prime time drama series, your mommy and I sat down to talk to the doctors today and make a plan for you. As luck and God would have it the doctor who came in to go through everything with us was the same one who was here your first night and the one who made sure you hung around after our little scare, Dr. Connor. He is one of the most even-keel people your mommy and I have ever met and he was very good about explaining to us exactly what you are going to be facing in the upcoming weeks and months. He laid out some options for us and said we would be talking with he and the other doctors more and more over the next few days as we make a decision about which option will be best for you. Mommy and I have been talking to each other a lot about what Dr. Connor told us and we have been talking to God as well because we know he is the one looking out for you. Hopefully we will have some ideas tomorrow.

So after we got through some of the shock and awe from our little meeting your mommy and I got the greatest gift either of us could have imagined. This afternoon we got to hold you for the first time. Both mommy and I had a chance to hold you in our arms for a good twenty minutes or more.
That one is you and mommy, and that is probably the happiest your mommy has ever been in her life. The moment that the nurses put you in mommy's arms it was like a light inside of her that has been dimmed the last two weeks exploded and was shining from every inch of her. She laughed and cried and she couldn't stop looking at you and kissing your little forehead. I have never seen two people fit together as well as you and mommy little man, and that says a lot because your mommy and I have been doing a pretty good job of that. Just so you don't forget daddy, here is one of all three of us for our first family portrait.
It may not be the best backdrop but your mommy and I were pretty happy with how it turned out.

Then we went to eat some late lunch with Pappaw (yep, he was here again, he just can't get enough of you kiddo) while you and Grandma hung out and played together. Apparently you guys got a little rowdy while mommy and I were out of the room, but what happens with grandma stays with grandma. A little while later you had a few more visitors. Your auntie Beth and uncle Scooter dropped by for a little bit to see you and while they were here your uncle Jeff stopped in as well. He drove a long way on a school night to see you and he even stayed late with the three of us talking about how things have been going lately. Don't tell him I said this, but your uncle Jeff is pretty insightful and has a way of helping your mommy and daddy when they can't see things straight.

But probably the biggest news of the day was your swimming lesson with uncle Jeff. He came in and said some very pretty words about you and your mommy and daddy and then read from his favorite book, The Bible. Jeff knows that thing like you know your breathing tube and one of these days you will read it too. But for today uncle Jeff did the reading and then he took some water and he sprinkled it on your head and introduced you to your other daddy, the one that was able to hold on to you with both hands even when you were in mommy's belly. Today you formally met God (you have known him for a while now because he was the one that made sure you got here to us) and that made everyone just a little bit happier.

But now the evening is winding down and your mommy and daddy are watching mommy's favorite show about a big family that loves each other a lot. Dr. Nelson stopped in to say hello and ease mommy and daddy a little bit so we could sleep tonight and we couldn't thank him enough. So now that you are calming down and mommy and daddy are getting sleepy we are all going to lay down and rest. So good night sweet boy, sleep well.

I love you Connor.

- Daddy

P.S. you may have another exciting (and excited) visitor tomorrow...
